Reference: Ephesians 1:15-18
The definition for the word revelationmeans to make known or to reveal something. Divine revelation is therefore anact of making known something to man that pertains to the things of God. Now weare told that the things of God can only be made known to man by the Spirit ofGod. The book which we call the Holy Bible is a spiritual book that anybody canread, but unless the Holy Spirit reveals its mysteries to a person, then wewill never understand it no matter how much we may read it.
The Bible is a book that contains many ofthe mysteries that pertain to the kingdom of God. We absolutely must have theHoly Spirit in our hearts to reveal its truths to us. Now the truth as to howthe Spirit reveals truth to us has been taught in a way that has led manypeople astray from coming to the knowledge of the truth. Now there are manypeople aware of the fact that the Spirit is the revealer of truth, but justknowing this is not proving that you know how he reveals truth. You mustunderstand what Divine revelation is and how the Spirit reveals truth to you inorder to come to the knowledge of the truth that the word of God says that wemust come to.
The Bible tells us that its not God's will for any to perish, butthat all should come to repentance, and also to the knowledge of the truth. Wemust come to the knowledge of truth simply because its the truth that will setus free.
Many people today will not receive thetruth nor will they even attempt to find out what is truth. Many people arethis way simply because they have been taught that as long as they acceptChrist as their Lord and Saviour, then taking a certain stand for doctrinalpoints is not really necessary. They think that anyone who does take a definitestand for certain doctrinal truths is only being fanatical and wanting to causetrouble and division among the brethren.
This is a point where Satan is deceivingmany today. When a person has been revealed the truth of God's word, themajority of people (if not all) will have nothing to do with them. If youattempt to tell the average person who confesses to be a christian just exactlywhat the Bible says and reveals, they will not listen to you and they willactually cast you out as being an evil and deceiving person. They will do thisbecause they cannot see the truth as the Bible reveals it.
They can't see the truth simply becausethey have not received the revelation of the truth. Many people think they knowthe truth and has come to the knowledge through and by a divine revelation, butfew people truly understand what Divine revelation is and how it comes about inour heart and lives. What most people call divine revelation today is nothingmore than an interpretation of the written letter of the word. There is a greatdifference between Divine revelation of the word and an interpretation of theword. The Holy Ghost is the revealer of truth, but most people today has only aknowledge of the written letter of the word and not the revelation of the word.If you try to tell people the revelation of the word they will tell you thatthe Bible does not say that. As an illustration let us look at the truthconcerning the Godhead. Most people today believe and accept the trinitydoctrine of three persons in the Godhead. They can't see the revealedtruth that there is only one God in the Godhead, because they take the letterof the word and not the revelation of the word.
Now Paul said in II Corinthians 3:6that God made us ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of thespirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. Here is a distinction between the letter andthe spirit. To minister the letter means to say what the written word says andthen try to give and explanation of what it means. Divine revelation is notreading a verse of scripture and supposedly think that the Spirit give themeaning to you as you read it. This is not divine revelation, but rather it'srelying on your own understanding thinking that the Spirit has revealed thetruth to you.
Divine revelation come only afteryou have read and studied the scriptures. The Holy Ghost reveals the truth of acertain subject after you have read many scriptures that deal with the samething. Any subject of the Bible is revealed to a person after they have studiedmany of the epistles that contains a portion of the subject in question.Anybody who thinks that revelation is reading a verse of scripture and comingto the knowledge of its truth is actually relying on their own naturalunderstanding.
If you will check other translations ofthe Bible you will find out that each and every verse of scripture isattempting to give you its meaning as you read it. This is an interpretationand not a Divine revelation. Only the Spirit can reveal truth to you. Today'smodern translations of the Bible has been written in such a way that anybodycan understand it, but truth is not revealed in this manner. We are told tostudy and show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to beashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (IITimothy 2:15) The truth canonly be rightly divided as we study it. To study the word of God puts the wordin our mind, but we cannot come up with the truth of it unless the Spiritreveals it to us.
If a person will study the scriptures asGod's word say that we must, then its truths will be revealed to them in duetime. The Bible contains many different subjects. The natural man reads theBible and puts his own interpretation to it thinking the Spirit revealed it tohim. This is why there are so many varied beliefs in the religious world today. If people would study the scriptures like God's word says, then there would bemore people who would speak the same thing.
Many people don't study the Bible becausethey allow somthing else to occupy them. Many people who do read and study theBible will say that they can't understand it and so they give it up. What theyare failing to do is to wait on God so he can reveal its truths to them.Patience is the key that unlocks the treasure house of God's knowledge, butvery few will sit long enough to let God teach them. The Bible is God'sinspired word to instruct us in righteousness, but most people today are tooimpatient to allow his word to transform them to Christ's image.
Satan knows that man is full of vanity andpride. His pride won't allow him to see himself as God sees him. The averageperson today wants to be somebody great in the eyes of the public. Many peopleread the Bible thinking that God gives them power to make them somebody great, but the average person doesn't know what the power of God is and what its forin our life. God will only exalt them who will humble themselves and walk inthe truth as he reveals it. The truth will kill your carnal man, but few therebe that find it........
